Chinese smartphone maker Vivo halted its AI glasses project after concluding it would be difficult to differentiate the product in a crowded and fast-evolving market, according to people familiar with the matter. The project had been under development for about six months and involved cooperation with several original design manufacturers (ODMs), including Goertek and software firm ThunderSoft, the sources said.
Vivo had explored multiple technical routes, including audio-video-focused designs and AI glasses featuring single green display modules, but had not settled on a final product direction before the programme was shelved. The decision was made after senior executives, including Executive Vice President Hu Baishan, assessed that meaningful differentiation would be difficult to achieve at this stage, the sources said.
