On Wednesday, Elon Musk praised Chinese robotics firm Unitree Robotics’ newly unveiled GD01 rideable mech on social media, calling the product “cool.” The Hangzhou-based company on Tuesday launched what it described as the world’s first mass-produced rideable transforming mech, with a starting price of 3.9 million yuan ($540,000). Unitree said the GD01 is designed as a new type of civilian transportation vehicle and weighs about 500 kg in its rideable form. Company videos showed the mech standing roughly two adults tall and using a robotic arm to smash through a wall in a demonstration. [TechNode reporting]
