On Saturday, Alibaba Group Chairman and principal owner of the Brooklyn Nets basketball team, Joe Tsai, and his wife Clara Wu Tsai announced their decision to end their marriage after nearly 30 years. According to a joint statement, the decision was made mutually, and the couple will proceed with an amicable divorce while continuing to treat each other with respect.
The statement said that in recent years, Tsai and Wu Tsai’s relationship had gradually evolved into a partnership focused on their shared business interests and co-parenting their children. While they have grown apart in their personal lives, they will maintain a strong and professional working relationship.
Tsai has no plans to sell any of his Alibaba shares, and that his role as Chairman of Alibaba Group will remain unchanged following the divorce, according to the statement. Additionally, the divorce will not affect either party’s current management positions at BSE Global, the Brooklyn Nets, or the New York Liberty. [TechNode reporting]
