XPENG announced XPENG YOYO as the brand for its robotaxi business on October 8 and opened online registration to users in China through invitation codes. The move expands access beyond employee testing as the company prepares for broader operations.
The robotaxi uses four XPENG-developed Turing AI chips with a combined computing capacity of 3,000 TOPS and runs the company’s VLA 2.0 model without lidar or high-definition maps. XPENG obtained permission in August to conduct road tests in Guangzhou without a safety operator in the driver’s seat, following production of its first robotaxi in May.
XPENG previously tested the booking and payment process internally at RMB 1 per ride. Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said the company plans to earn revenue through vehicle sales, services and commission sharing, with local fleet operations handled by partners. [XPENG]
