Alipay announced today that it has been added as a payment option for purchases on Yahoo! Shopping Japan. Currently the service is through cooperation with an overseas Shopping Proxy agent, according to Alipay.

The China’s dominant online payment service has started expanding to markets outside mainland China to take advantage of the increasing purchases, online or offline, by Chinese consumers from overseas.

Alipay On-site, a digital payment solution that supports QR code and other scan-to-pay solutions, now is available at hundreds of bricks-and-mortar stores in Hong Kong, Taipei, and South Korea.

There has also been an online payment solution for retailers in North America and Europe to sell directly to Chinese consumers in 14 major foreign currencies.
