LeTV, the Chinese online content and smart TV company, announced today a new flagship smart TV, X50 Air. It has four times the resolution of a full HD TV, or 4K, the highest resolution format available so far.
Samsung, Sony and the like have launched their 4K TVs earlier, but what LeTV, who always does the online video business differently from its Chinese peers, has been working on isn’t only the TV set but also 4K content. Now on X50 Air has a 24-hour streaming 4K video channel offering content from third parties. In last May, LeTV signed Zhang Yimou, one of the most famous movie directors in China, who’d produce China’s first 4K movie. The movie is expected to debut later this year and will be available on X50 Air then. More original 4K movies will be produced later.
X50 Air has a 50″ screen, thinner than Macbook Pro, and is powered by quad-core processor. It’s price is RMB 2999 (less than $500), the same with that for a Xiaomi smart TV. Like always, LeTV charges an annual fee for content consumption — an X50 Air consumer has to pay RMB980, tow-year fee, when buying
It’s no more than three month since LeTV unveiled last higher-cost smart TV. The company has launched six smart TV models.
Really love the age of globalization and the rise of consumer benefits. Looks like an amazing price for what’s being offered. Look forward to looking at the demo units in Sunning when this comes out.
