On Tuesday, Chinese self-driving startup WeRide said that it has secured an undisclosed amount of funding from state-owned automaker GAC Motor, a manufacturing partner for Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi, and others. WeRide and GAC aim to expand their autonomous ride-hailing pilot project. The deal came less than a month after GAC said that WeRide-empowered self-driving cars will be available on its ride-hailing platform Ontime to the public in the southern Guangdong province next year. Guangzhou-headquartered WeRide has also been backed by Nissan, Chinese bus maker Yutong, among other investors. [WeRide statement, in Chinese]
