BOE, a leading Chinese display manufacturer, was one of the main tech supporters behind the 2022 Winter Olympics opening ceremony, held in Beijing on Feb. 4. The company made a customized LED stand consisting of 550,000 LED lights in the shape of a giant snowflake, which was used to support the Olympic torch. The snowflake stood on a 10,393-square-meter ground display, with 8K resolution, 100000:1 ultra-high contrast (100 times the average display), and a 3840Hz refresh rate (30 times the average). BOE also developed a synchronized messaging system to ensure the torch could respond to its ignition signal in milliseconds. [IT home, in Chinese]
