Chinese fintech giant Ant Group announced the launch of OceanBase 4.0, an enterprise-level distributed relational database, on Wednesday. At the release event, the firm says its new product had better performance than its major rival MySQL, with 260,000 more points in a Sysbench baseline test. The new 4.0 version also offers extensibility that can convert from a centralized database to distributed database without modification of the apps. Launched in 2010, OceanBase is a self-developed database that supports Ant Group’s key product – Alipay. It has been adopted by over 400 customers, which equates to a year-on-year increase of over 100% from 2020 to 2021, according to the firm’s press release. [TechNode reporting]
