China’s fast-fashion retailer Shein has launched an online peer-to-peer resale platform called SHEIN Exchange. The new service can be accessed through the existing SHEIN app and official website, allowing users to buy and sell previously owned Shein products, the company said on Monday. The service is now available to US customers, with plans to expand globally next year. The launch of the resale program was met with criticism over the company’s business model, which encourages the overconsumption of cheap clothing. According to the company’s press release, the pilot in the US is part of Shein’s commitment to sustainability efforts. [Shein press release]
