BMW is securing cylindrical battery cells from Chinese manufacturer EVE Energy for battery production at a facility in the northeastern Chinese city of Shenyang, local media outlet The Paper reported on Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter. The news comes just after the German automaker revealed plans on Nov. 11 to invest RMB 10 billion ($1.4 billion) in battery manufacturing expansion in the city, where its joint venture, BMW Brilliance Automotive, is headquartered. In September, Shenzhen-listed EVE also announced it would build an RMB 10 billion manufacturing facility in Shenyang, with a capacity of 40 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of batteries annually.
