Chinese phone maker Xiaomi has stated that it is in active negotiations over patent licenses with Huawei following reports that the company was being sued by the telecoms giant. According to a Xiaomi statement, the two companies agree that intellectual property licensing and cooperation are beneficial for innovation and the public interest, and mediation is an effective way to reach a settlement. Huawei however, has yet to respond. Chinese media outlet National Intellectual Property News recently published details of four patents it said Huawei was challenging Xiaomi over. Cases 1 and 2 are related to 4G/LTE technology, which is a standard essential patent (SEP), while cases 3 and 4 concern phone photography and unlocking technology, which are not part of the SEP.
