On Wednesday, BYD began selling the Seagull, a four-door mini electric vehicle, at a starting price of RMB 73,800 ($10,666). According to the Chinese automaker, the Seagull secured over 10,000 pre-orders within the first 24 hours of its debut at the Auto Shanghai show on April 18. The vehicle has a driving range of up to 405 kilometers (252 miles) and features four airbags and a high-strength steel frame as standard. Additionally, BYD’s combustion-proof “blade battery” is also included, which the automaker claims ensures passenger safety.
