Online music platform Tencent Music Entertainment Group (TME) announced its unaudited earnings for the first quarter on Tuesday. It made RMB 7 billion ($1.02 billion) in total revenue, representing 5.4% year-on-year growth. Revenue from music subscriptions amounted to RMB 2.6 billion ($378 million), a 30.4% year-on-year growth. TME spent this spring exploring language models for AI-generated music, launching two AI products – TME Studio Music Assistant and Tone Producer – CEO Liang Zhu said at the press conference. These two products help musicians improve songwriting, composition, and editing efficiency, the company claims. Currently, the primary obstacle to creating AI music is limited music copyright, TME believes, but the firm expects to improve this situation with more active participation from copyright partners.
