Amazon Kindle is scaling back its presence in China, according to various media reports issued on Monday. Kindle closed its official store on Alibaba’s Tmall in October and most of the Chinese versions of the e-book device are currently out of stock on JD.com and Amazon.cn. An Amazon representative told The Beijing News that the company is still dedicated to serving Chinese customers and suggested people purchase Kindles through “third-party online and offline retailers.” The e-commerce giant told TechCrunch that Kindle models are “currently sold out in China” but declined to elaborate on the reasons for the shortage or to comment on why the company had shut its Alibaba store.
