TikTok owner ByteDance has completed software registration for its new music app in China. Called Qishui Music (our translation), meaning soda music, the app is run by the same operator as Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok. The app’s core team members consist of former staff of NetEase Cloud Music, podcast app Ximalaya, and ByteDance’s overseas music streaming app, Resso. The new app will reportedly use algorithms to recommend new singles and popular tracks to users. ByteDance began internal testing of the music app in December 2021. [IT home, in Chinese]
