Chinese ride-hailing giant Didi has begun a new round of layoffs ahead of Lunar New Year. Hundreds of jobs are affected across almost all departments at the company, including ride-hailing, overseas business, and risk management, the South China Morning Post reported on Thursday, citing two sources. Beijing-based Didi declined to comment on the matter. The layoffs follow the company’s decision last month to cut budgets for several departments in 2023. Didi is offering laid-off employees severance pay based on their years of service and an additional month’s salary, but the timing of the firings so close to the Spring Festival holiday has prompted complaints, as employees normally receive annual bonuses in February, a source told the South China Morning Post.
