CATL has sent clients its first sample battery cells produced by its new German plant, with plans to build six battery cell production lines at the facility by the end of 2023, regional president Matthias Zentgraf said on Friday. CATL’s first production site on the continent, the 14 gigawatt-hour (GWh) European plant is currently capable of powering up to 350,000 electric vehicles with a 40 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery pack per year. The Chinese battery giant is looking to expand its annual capacity to 24 GWh and build a supply chain with regional partners over the long term, according to Zentgraf. [Reuters]
