Tencent is working on an artificial intelligence chatbot service similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, the president of Tencent cloud and smart industry group Tang Daosheng said at the Boao Forum for Asia on Thursday. When asked whether the service would be integrated into its messaging apps including WeChat and QQ or intended to serve business clients through Tencent Cloud, Tang replied “both.” Tencent president Martin Lau also mentioned the development of a ChatGPT-style tool on the company’s latest earnings call, saying the chatbot will be one of many applications that Tencent is preparing to launch but that the company do not see ChatGPT as a “business threat” that it needs to tackle immediately.
