Tencent launched its new video content-related ads incentive plan within super app WeChat on April 7, according to an official announcement on WeChat. Qualified original video content creators can obtain advertising revenue via WeChat’s Channels platform by displaying advertisements beneath their videos. In order to gain revenue, creators need to meet a number of requirements, including having 100 or more “effective followers,” successfully approved content, and “high-quality” original videos, the announcement stipulated. Currently, the incentive plan is still undergoing testing, with the platform inviting batches of what it deems high-quality original content creators to participate ahead of an anticipated wider roll-out.
