Smartphone shipments in the Chinese market fell 11% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2023 to 67.6 million units, marking the lowest quarter since 2013, according to analyst firm Canalys. Apple ranked first with a 20% market share, shipping 13.3 million units, largely due to the popularity of its iPhone 14 series. Oppo, including its subsidiary brand OnePlus, shipped 12.6 million units for a 19% market share. Canalys attributed Oppo’s second place ranking to the release of its new flagship, the OnePlus 11, on January 9. Vivo and Honor shipped 11.3 million and 9.7 million units respectively, taking third and fourth place. Xiaomi maintained its position in fifth place with 8.5 million units. “The pandemic affected consumers’ confidence in the long term, leading them to spend cautiously on electronics,” said Lucas Zhong, a research analyst at Canalys, of the data.
